HISTORY

Icon-feuilleA story through the ages

We only knew our grandfather, Marius TISSOT, who was born at the beginning of last century in 1906.

Histoire1

But it was his grandfather, Louis TISSOT, followed by his father, Laurent, who established the estate and built the first farm buildings around 1850.  At that time they cultivated just a few parcels of vines for their personal consumption and in abundant years to sell to the bistros of Chambery.  After the phylloxera epidemic at the beginning of the 20th century, Laurent replanted a few acres of vines that we still tend today.

Up until 1960, our grandfather Marius practised polyculture on the farm, with a few animals as well as his vines.  The estate then passed to his daughter, Monique, who married our father, Alexis Berthollier, himself son of a winegrower. They abandoned polyculture to devote themselves entirely to viticulture.  In 1970 Alexis and a group of winegrowers from the region founded the appellation AOC Vin de Savoie.

In the 1950s, Alexis’ father Victor Berthollier (photo: Victor in the cellar), who was a winegrower at Apremont on the other side of the valley, was one of the first if not the very first in the Savoie to bottle his own wine to sell, when traditionally wine was sold in barrels or directly into customers’ own recipients.
